Rensselaer 6, Brown 2 - Saturday, March 16, 2013
After a scoreless first period, RPI busted loose finally, forcing a Game 3. Mike Zalewski scored twice in the third to help the Engineers finally break free. “I didn’t think we were very good,” Brown coach Brendan Whittet said. “I think we were just a little off. RPI played great. It was still a 3-2 game, a one-goal game, going into the third. They took it to us in the third and they got a big win, which is what they earned.”

Brown 3, Rensselaer 1 - Friday, March 15, 2013
Michael Juola scored with 1:44 left in regulation to give Brown the win on the road against second-seeded RPI. "I thought it was a great game,” Brown coach Brendan Whittet said. “We stuck to what we needed to do defensively and that allowed us that opportunity at the end. It was a great shot. (Juola) buried it and Borelli played tremendous from the get go. They had some good, good chances.”

Brown 4, Clarkson 3 - Saturday, March 9, 2013
Brown gets the two-game sweep, and will advance to face an opponent to be determined in the ECAC quarterfinals. “It’s a really good feeling,” said Brown coach Brendan Whittet. “We worked hard to get home ice and to host Clarkson. Clarkson put up a heck of a good fight tonight, that’s for sure. When they were down and out, they came back and played really hard.” Facing the end of their season and trailing, 4-1, entering the final period, the Golden Knights mounted a furious comeback attempt, outshooting Brown, 17-3, during the last 20 minutes. Jarrett Burton scored a pair of power-play goals, including a five-on-three with 3:19 left in regulation, that brought his team back to within a goal, 4-3. Following Burton’s goal, Clarkson still had 1:37 remaining on a power play. However, the Bears were able to kill the advantage, thanks in part to two huge saves by senior Anthony Borelli. “The third period was not how we play,” said Whittet. “We went into a little bit of a prevent mode, which is never a good thing. You are trying to end a team’s year; they came out really hard and they took it to us for the third period.”

Brown 5, Colgate 1 - Saturday, March 2, 2013
Brown finishes seventh with the win and losses by Cornell and Clarkson, its highest finish since the 2004-05 season. Brown will face Clarkson in the first round. “I actually thought we played better against Cornell,” said Brown coach Brendan Whittet, referring to Friday's loss. “They were buzzing ... they had a lot of energy. I thought we were on our heels a little bit. But again, we did what we needed to do and it was nice to get some puck luck, which we created, but we had some seeing-eye shots, things were going in. ... We chip away, we do some really good things. It’s a tribute to the guys. To get that win; to have 11 wins on the season; I am more impressed that we only lost 12 games out of 29. We did a lot of good things. Guys really, really stuck together. They came together, they played with a lot of heart and they battled for each other. That’s all you can ask.”

Brown 3, Quinnipiac 3 - Saturday, February 23, 2013
Quinnipiac blew a late two-goal lead, and gets three points on the weekend, which is still fine for all intents and purposes. But blowing the lead won't leave a good taste. Sometimes, though, that's a good thing for a team that could otherwise be on cruise control. ... Trailing, 3-1, with under three minutes left in regulation, Brown rallied, getting the tying goal with 52 seconds left. “That was a gutsy effort to overcome a two-goal deficit with under three minutes to play,” Brown coach Brendan Whittet said. “We are a resilient group that never quits and we were able to will ourselves to a tie in a packed arena against the top-ranked team in the country.”

Union 2, Brown 0 - Saturday, February 16, 2013
Troy Grosenick had a 24-save shutout, as Union finally put together a strong weekend, start to finish. The sweep has pulled the Dutchmen back up to No. 15 in the Pairwise, and gives them a chance to control their own destiny for a return trip to the NCAAs.
Anthony Borelli stopped a career high 46 shots in the loss. “Borelli has been fabulous,” said Brown coach Brendan Whittet. “If it wasn’t for him, that would not have been a good result. Obviously it’s a loss, but … it was only 1-0 going into the third. That was the message to the guys. Win a period, you can win a game and that is what Anthony provides for us.”

Brown 3, Cornell 0 - Saturday, January 26, 2013
Senior goalie Anthony Borelli made 23 saves to earn his first career shutout, and gets it at famed Lynah Rink. “The guys were absolutely tremendous tonight,” Brown coach Brendan Whittet said. “It was a great team effort with contributions from everyone who wore the uniform. To come to Ithaca, and play the determined, relentless style that we did is impressive. I am extremely proud of the team.” The two teams were scoreless through nearly 40 minutes, but Jeff Ryan snapped the deadlock with 46 seconds left in the second period.
Brown is actually tied for eighth place now with Clarkson and ... Cornell. I don't know what to say about the Big Red right now. Losing Cole Bardreau for the season is a big deal, because he's such a good all-around player, and a great faceoff guy. But his loss should not have been that significant where it looked completely lost on Saturday -- following up a tough OT loss to Yale on Friday. Cornell is now one game under .500, and this once promising season is slipping away quickly. The Big Red were thought to be Frozen Four contenders when the season started, but are a long way from the NCAAs right now, despite lots of big early-season wins. At the Florida tournament, Cornell was 4-0 non-league, with wins over CC, Michigan and Ferris State. But a loss to Maine in the Florida final game seemed to set Cornell off on a bad course. It's strange to see a Mike Schafer-coach Cornell team underachieve. You'd be hard-pressed to find another example in his 17-year tenure.

Rensselaer 2, Brown 2 - Saturday, December 8, 2012
Injuries, team-imposed suspensions, sub-par goaltending -- RPI has seen it all so far this season. But this weekend was a sign that perhaps things are finally back on track. With freshman Jason Kasdorf now manning the net on a seemingly full-time basis, with five straight starts, RPI got a rousing 6-1 win Friday against Yale, then followed it up with a solid 2-2 tie. Senior goaltender Bryce Merriam has not been doing that well in net, and sophomore Scott Diebold was also ineffective. So RPI coach Seth Appert turned to the freshman a couple of weeks ago, and there has been a marked difference. ... Meanwhile, Brown also must feel like it's making some progress, and also in net. Remember, this was a team that was left short a goalie after the Roy brothers bolted for Northeastern during the summer. Anthony Borelli has recently been getting the starts. Despite being a senior, Borelli appeared in just seven games prior to this season, and none last year. Marco DeFilippo has been struggling, however, and Borelli has stepped in, going 1-0-3, including ties against Union and RPI this weekend.

Providence 7, Brown 0 - Saturday, November 24, 2012
Seven different players scored for the Friars in the rout, in the annual Mayor's Cup game.

Dartmouth 2, Brown 1 - Saturday, November 3, 2012
Every year there are sleeper teams, and this very well could be one of them. Dartmouth still hasn't lost in four games, and opens the ECAC season with a weekend sweep. The Big Green have a number of talented forwards that have been in and out of the lineup in the last couple of seasons, but if everyone stays healthy, this is a very good, deep team. Eric Robinson scored his fifth goal in just four games, getting the game winner in the third. He had 12 goals last season, going under the radar, but is busting out this year. ... The highlight for Brown -- college hockey's First Teamer on the All-Name Team, Massimo Lamacchia, picked up a shorthanded goal in the first period.

Brown 3, Rensselaer 2 - Sunday, March 17, 2013
Brown won Game 3, in a tough series that may have crushed RPI's NCAA hopes. Brown got out to a 3-0 lead, then had to hold on as RPI outshot the Bears 13-4 in the third period. Anthony Borelli stopped 40 shots, including all 13 he faced in the final period. Matt Lorito scored his 20th of the season, as he became the first Brown player since Damian Prescott in 1997-98 to get at least 20. “I thought we started off pretty good,” Brown coach Brendan Whittet said. “We were pretty decent for a period and a half and then the tide turned pretty quick. Not only did it turn; we were holding on for dear life. It’s nice to get the win and move on and it is a huge tribute to our guys. But, that was not easy. RPI has a great team. Seth does a wonderful job. Their team is really good and they’re going to be really good for a long time.” ... For a program that faced the trauma of losing big-time recruit Kevin Roy to some ... interesting recruiting, then saw Roy have a stellar year for Northeastern -- it's nice to see Brown move on. But it's heartbreak for RPI, which had a great stretch run that took it all the way to second place and into NCAA contention. RPI needs a lot of help to make the NCAAs now, kind of like what happened two years ago.
