Maine 4, New Hampshire 4 - Saturday, March 9, 2013

Maine didn't have much to play for -- it could've finished seventh with a win, but not much difference with eighth. But New Hampshire had a lot to play for, and as it turns out, this tie to rival Maine was a killer. So credit Maine for gutting this out and coming from behind for the tie. As a result, New Hampshire fell from the potential to get first place, to fifth place and out of a home-ice spot for the playoffs, in the razor-thin Hockey East race. New Hampshire has to travel to Providence for a quarterfinal series. ... Maine fell behind 3-1, then actually rallied to take the lead, before UNH pulled out the tie late.

Northeastern 4, Maine 4 - Saturday, March 2, 2013

Northeastern became the first team to officially be eliminated from postseason play, while Maine and UMass are essentially battling for the final spot. Maine pulled one point ahead of UMass with one weekend remaining. Chris Rawlings was pulled by Northeastern after allowing four goals, and Bryan Mountain came on to stop all 34 shots he faced, as Maine peppered him through the final two periods.

Boston University 5, Maine 4 - Saturday, February 16, 2013

It's been another tumultuous season for BU, with players leaving the program mid-season, and coming in last place in the Beanpot. But there's still time for BU to turn things around. This weekend -- a tie Friday, followed by blowing a lead Saturday only to win in overtime -- is not going to convince anyone of a turnaround, but it was a necessary three points. Despite everything, and a 14-12-2 overall record, BU is tied for third, just two points out of first place in Hockey East, and would currently qualify for the NCAAs.

Vermont 3, Maine 0 - Saturday, February 9, 2013

Kyle Reynolds netted a pair of goals for the second time in three games and Brody Hoffman made 19 saves for his second career shutout. Vermont snapped Maine's four-game unbeaten streak, and, more importantly, with eight games remaining, take over the league's eighth and final playoff spot by one point over Maine. “This is definitely our biggest win of the season. We just won a series against Maine, which is the first tiebreaker,” said Reynolds. “We just did the little things, out-hit them, out-blocked them, out-chanced them. You've got to give a lot of credit to Hoffman. He kept us in the game. If they score in the first 10 minutes, it's a whole different game.” Hoffman made 10 of his saves in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Maine 3, Boston College 1 - Saturday, January 26, 2013

Maine gets an improbable road sweep of Boston College. The Eagles, who were 2-2 while coach Jerry York was sidelined after eye surgery, welcomed him back only to lose a pair. BC is still BC, in first place in Hockey East, and sixth in the Pairwise, and it's not time to panic, but with a bunch of injuries on the back line, it's easy to see where the team is having some issues. Of course, the Eagles didn't score all weekend either, as Maine did a great job suffocating them. Maine, which has been awful at home all season, and struggling to score -- and coming into the weekend with just one win in Hockey East -- did just about everything right in this weekend away from Orono.

When all was said and done, Maine was still in last place in Hockey East, and BC was still first. But it was definitely something for Maine to hang its hat on, and hopefully build upon.

Mercyhurst 5, Maine 2 - Saturday, January 5, 2013

Maine came off the tournament win in Florida with a victory over Mercyhurst on Friday, a stretch which came somewhat out of nowhere after a tough start, especially considering the injuries that have plagued the Black Bears. But Mercyhurst would not go away quietly. It got a goal midway through the third, and two empty netters to walk away from Orono with the split. Mercyhurst also has a win this season over Clarkson and a tie with Ferris State, so it's been solid in its non-league games.

Boston University 1, Maine 0 - Saturday, December 8, 2012

Boston University brushed off the mid-week loss of struggling forward Yasin Cisse to the Western Hockey League, and got a hard-fought victory Thursday over New Hampshire. It was important, then, to follow up with this win, in order to keep pace in the three-way logjam atop the Hockey East standings, with UNH and Boston College. The Terriers had to kill off a late five-minute major penalty to preserve the win.

Providence 3, Maine 0 - Saturday, October 27, 2012

Kudos to Providence for sweeping Maine, but let's face, that isn't very difficult right now. Maine was just swept at home last weekend by St. Lawrence, and neither Providence or St. Lawrence are slouches, but still -- the games really haven't been close, for the most part, with Maine getting outscored 22-8.
