New Hampshire 4, Providence 1 - Saturday, March 16, 2013
New Hampshire keeps the series alive behind a hat trick from Matt Willows. Providence goalie Jon Gillies let up a rare bad goal midway through the third that gave UNH a 3-1 cushion.

Providence 3, New Hampshire 2 - Friday, March 15, 2013
Freshman Nick Saracino scored the game-winning goal at 8:06 of the third period to cap off a three-point night, as Providence won Game 1 and got itself close to that NCAA bubble.

Mass.-Lowell 4, Providence 1 - Saturday, March 9, 2013
Providence's win Friday meant the teams entered Saturday tied for first place, a remarkable season for both teams. Lowell, for being able to follow up and even exceed -- from a regular season standpoint -- its huge turnaround last season; and Providence, which needed a couple years under Nate Leaman to get to this point, but like Lowell, has really turned things around. In the end, Lowell got the win Saturday, and took home the title, while Providence will host New Hampshire in the quarterfinals.

Providence 5, Boston College 1 - Saturday, March 2, 2013
Providence snapped an 18-game winless streak against Boston College with a huge win. After falling behind Friday, Providence actually made a nice run at it, only to fall short. So that was a sign of things to come. Many weren't sure if Providence's seven-game unbeaten streak entering the weekend were truly indicative that the Friars were ready to compete for the top spot in Hockey East, even though they entered the weekend in a four-way tie. But clearly Providence more than held its own, and Nate Leaman's rebuilding job appears more than ahead of schedule.

Providence 3, Northeastern 2 - Saturday, February 23, 2013
Providence gets the sweep and is now unbeaten in seven. That streak has surged the Friars into a tie for first place in Hockey East with four games remaining, though Merrimack and BC are one and two points back, respectively, with two games in hand each. First place in Hockey East, yet 28th in the Pairwise, so ... there's that, but still.

Providence 6, New Hampshire 5 - Saturday, January 19, 2013
See our complete story on Providence. As for New Hampshire, going 3-4-1 now in the last eight is a little bit of a slump after such a great start, and certainly this game was not very good defensively, but the Wildcats are in plenty good shape, and have a relatively favorable schedule the rest of the way, which they need to take advantage of.

Minnesota State 4, Providence 0 - Saturday, January 5, 2013
It certainly didn't help not having goalie Jon Gillies, who was at the World Junior tournament. But it's hard to pin two straight weekend losses in Mankato on that. Friday night's game was lost in overtime on a goal by Chase Grant. And this one, the Friars just didn't score. But let's credit Minnesota State, which has now won 11 of 12, and moved to No. 12 in the Pairwise. Stephon Williams stopped 24 shots for the shutout, the third of the season for the freshman, who has clearly wrested the No. 1 job from senior Phil Cook; and Eriah Hayes contributed his 12th goal of the season. The Mavericks may not have played the toughest schedule in the world so far, but they are getting it done under first-year coach Mike Hastings. That, and a healthy lineup.

Seven different players scored for the Friars in the rout, in the annual Mayor's Cup game.

Vermont 2, Providence 0 - Saturday, November 3, 2012
Phenom Mark Jankowski scored the game winner for Providence on Friday. But Vermont shut things down defensively on Saturday, and got the split, and its first win of the season (1-2-2). Vermont coach Kevin Sneddon has been riding freshman Brody Hoffman has his goaltender all season so far, and Saturday it paid off, as Hoffman picked up his first career win and shutout. Vermont finished the night 5--for-5 on the penalty kill to finish the weekend a perfect 9-for-9. "I give our guys all the credit in the world, we had a great performance from our team tonight," Sneddon said. "One of the keys to the game was our penalty kill, (assistant coach) Kevin Patrick has done a fantastic job. That was really one of the big stories of the weekend, killing two 5-on-3's and just being solid all weekend on the kill. ... We paid a price tonight and we did all the little things that bring us success. I'm just happy for them that they can taste it, they've worked hard and haven't had a lot to show for it. It's nice for them to taste some success."

Providence 3, Maine 0 - Saturday, October 27, 2012
Kudos to Providence for sweeping Maine, but let's face, that isn't very difficult right now. Maine was just swept at home last weekend by St. Lawrence, and neither Providence or St. Lawrence are slouches, but still -- the games really haven't been close, for the most part, with Maine getting outscored 22-8.

Providence 3, New Hampshire 2 - Sunday, March 17, 2013
Providence comes from behind to defeat UNH and win the series in three games. Jon Gillies was just outstanding again for Providence in goal. New Hampshire sees a Hockey East tournament come to another disappointing end, but is very likely to still be playing in two weekends, when it hosts the NCAA Northeast Regional.
