Boston College 4, Vermont 1 - Saturday, March 16, 2013

Vermont took a ton of penalties in the first period, somehow survived for a while, but eventually allowed a 5-on-3 goal and BC was off and running. Boston College found out before the game that coach Jerry York had another detached retina and would need surgery Monday, his second one of the year, and had to sit out. He will hopefully be OK for next weekend's Hockey East semifinal, which will come against long-time rival BU.

Vermont's season ends ... “I'm proud of our team. I thought we took a lot of steps this year,” Vermont coach Kevin Sneddon said. “Our kids played hard. We took a step in the right direction. We've got plenty more to go, but this is part of the process of climbing back up.”

Boston College 4, Vermont 2 - Friday, March 15, 2013

BC went up 3-0, then allowed Vermont some life, including a third-period shorthanded goal that made it 3-2. Johnny Gaudreau's 19th, an empty netter, capped things off, however.

Boston College 7, Vermont 2 - Saturday, March 9, 2013

BC was done messing around. After a tie Friday jeopardized BC's ability to win a Hockey East regular-season title, the Eagles came out blazing. Led by Johnny Gaudreau -- who had 2 goals and 4 assists on the night -- they took a 5-0 lead on the way to the win. However, with Lowell defeating Providence, BC finished in second place. These teams will meet again next week in the Hockey East quarterfinals.

Vermont 5, Boston University 2 - Saturday, March 2, 2013

The ground BU has made up recently, takes a hit with this loss. It still controls its own destiny, however. Vermont, meanwhile, came close to sealing a playoff bid, and is in pretty good shape in seventh place. See more in our Hockey East blog.

New Hampshire 1, Vermont 1 - Saturday, February 23, 2013

New Hampshire gets three points against Vermont, but sorely need four in terms of trying to catch first place in Hockey East. Nonetheless, the Wildcats remain in good shape in the Pairwise, and Vermont solidifies its position for two of the final Hockey East playoff spots.

“I thought it was a great hockey game, they're an excellent team,” said head coach Kevin Sneddon. “I look at the progress we've made since the first time we played them in November when they were clearly the better hockey team. They were two very close, hard-fought games this weekend.”

Vermont 3, Maine 0 - Saturday, February 9, 2013

Kyle Reynolds netted a pair of goals for the second time in three games and Brody Hoffman made 19 saves for his second career shutout. Vermont snapped Maine's four-game unbeaten streak, and, more importantly, with eight games remaining, take over the league's eighth and final playoff spot by one point over Maine. “This is definitely our biggest win of the season. We just won a series against Maine, which is the first tiebreaker,” said Reynolds. “We just did the little things, out-hit them, out-blocked them, out-chanced them. You've got to give a lot of credit to Hoffman. He kept us in the game. If they score in the first 10 minutes, it's a whole different game.” Hoffman made 10 of his saves in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Vermont 3, Massachusetts 2 - Saturday, January 26, 2013

Kyle Reynolds scored twice to lead Vermont. “Our penalty kill was excellent tonight and (goalie Brody Hoffman) played well all game but really played well at the end to preserve the win,” Vermont coach Kevin Sneddon said. “They gave us everything we could handle literally right to the last shot. Probably the best word to describe our play tonight was relentless. It was a total team win but some guys stepped up for us tonight.”

Penn State 4, Vermont 2 - Saturday, January 19, 2013

Penn State once again showed an ability to rise to the occasion. Just a few days after losing to D-III Neumann, the nascent program got its second win against a "major" D-I team, with both of them coming in NHL arenas. The other was against Ohio State at the Pittsburgh holiday tournament, and this was in Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center, in front of a sellout crowd. This game was scheduled long ago, but because of the lockout, it wound up being the nightcap to an NHL/NCAA doubleheader, the first NCAA game in the building -- where the Frozen Four will be in 2014.

Merrimack 4, Vermont 1 - Saturday, January 5, 2013

Merrimack scored two goals in the each of the first and third periods and held off Vermont. “Merrimack's an excellent team with the lead and we gave them two easy goals to start the game,” said UVM coach Kevin Sneddon. “It's hard to dig yourself out of a hole against a team that's excellent defensively. You can't give them easy ones. You've got to make them earn it and I don't think we did that. Offensively we just didn't have a very good night.”

Vermont 2, Providence 0 - Saturday, November 3, 2012

Phenom Mark Jankowski scored the game winner for Providence on Friday. But Vermont shut things down defensively on Saturday, and got the split, and its first win of the season (1-2-2). Vermont coach Kevin Sneddon has been riding freshman Brody Hoffman has his goaltender all season so far, and Saturday it paid off, as Hoffman picked up his first career win and shutout. Vermont finished the night 5--for-5 on the penalty kill to finish the weekend a perfect 9-for-9. "I give our guys all the credit in the world, we had a great performance from our team tonight," Sneddon said. "One of the keys to the game was our penalty kill, (assistant coach) Kevin Patrick has done a fantastic job. That was really one of the big stories of the weekend, killing two 5-on-3's and just being solid all weekend on the kill. ... We paid a price tonight and we did all the little things that bring us success. I'm just happy for them that they can taste it, they've worked hard and haven't had a lot to show for it. It's nice for them to taste some success."
