Wild Ride

The highlight of the weekend's tournament action came in Minnesota, where upstart Northeastern had the hometown Gophers on the ropes. But Minnesota rallied to win in overtime (above), after Northeastern goalie Brad Thiessen was called for a controversial delay of game penalty in overtime. The Gophers scored seven seconds later. ... Elsewhere over the weekend, there were numerous other big tournaments. Among them, Boston University defeated host Denver in the Denver Cup; Ohio State knocked off Clarkson in the Ohio Hockey Classic; and Vermont and Notre Dame had tournament wins too. Also, struggling Northern Michigan stunned Wisconsin with two wins in Madison. And Cornell took advantage of Princeton's loss to move atop the Pairwise.
