Frazier out at Merrimack

by Mike McMahon/Staff Writer

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — The Eagle-Tribune is reporting that Merrimack College athletic director Sean Frazier has not had his contract renewed by the school, and will complete his duties this Friday.

Merrimack President Richard Santagati did not return phone calls placed to his office on Tuesday, however, did e-mail the Tribune the following statement:

"The contract between Sean Frazier and Merrimack College ended on June 30, 2007," it read. "He has decided to move on to other career opportunities. The college wishes him well in all of his future endeavors."

Phone calls to Frazier's office were not returned.

Two school employees told the Tribune that there is currently a freeze of all hires. Therefore, no replacement for Frazier will be brought aboard at this time. Instead, department consultant Joe Iarrobino will take over the duties on an interim basis.

Iarrobino was hired as a consultant to assist former interim A.D. and head hockey coach Chris Serino with the day-to-day operations of the department while Serino concentrated on hockey duties. Iarrobino remained in the same role under Frazier when he was hired in 2005.

For Frazier, it continues a trend of abbreviated stays. He was AD at Manhattanville College for just three years (1999 to 2002), and then held the same post at Clarkson for another three years (2002 to 2005). He was with the Warriors for only two years.
