In 2005-06, the Yale Bulldogs had a 10-20-3 record, a five-win improvement from the year before. But it wasn't enough for long-time coach Tim Taylor, who was replaced by alum Keith Allain before the start of last season.

So in Allain's first season, the Bulldogs finished 10th in the ECAC and lost in the first round of the conference playoffs. However, that didn't keep Allain's thoughts of last year on a down note.

"We made positive strides," said Allain, "We had some great moments to the season and I look forward to next year."

After a fast 6-2-1 start through November, the Bulldogs slipped, going 5-15-2 the rest of the way. But in that 6-2-1 start, Yale defeated such opponents as New Hampshire and Dartmouth.

Going into this season, the Bulldogs should have some firepower on offense with sophomores Mark Arcobello and Sean Backman.

On last year's freshmen class, Allain seemed very pleased. "The freshmen group did well. There was a lot of chemistry, and there is a good future there."

Going into this year, Allain seems pretty confident about the group of kids coming in.

This year the Bulldogs will be led by senior forward Will Engasser (the only captain as of right now).

"He (Engasser) was a good choice," Allain said about his captain. "He has a good commitment for the team."

"ECAC has terrific hockey," Allain said about the league. "No team can afford to take a night off. There is very little difference between the teams. In the Ivy League it is strong year in and year out.

"It is a year where I think we will take another step in the right direction."
