Yale Loses Backman, Possibly for the Season

CHN Staff Report

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Yale senior forward Sean Backman may miss the rest of the season, according to coach Keith Allain, dealing a serious to the Bulldogs' postseason aspirations.

Backman was injured last week, according to reports. His return is "very slim," according to a report in the New Haven Register. Yale declined to elaborate on the nature of the injury, or how it occured.

Yale, which is No. 9 in the Pairwise and the top seed in the ECAC tournament, has lost a key player late in the season for the second straight year. Last year it was senior defenseman Tom Dignard. Yale won the ECAC championship, but lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Backman was just named the Ivy League Player of the Year and First Team All-ECAC. He has 21 goals in 29 games this season, helping lead the nation's top offense.

Yale will host Brown in a best-of-3 quarterfinal series this weekend.
