Da Costa Remains Out, But Will Be Back

by Mike McMahon/Staff Writer

Merrimack forward Stephane Da Costa’s lower-body injury, suffered in last Friday’s game at UNH, is not season-ending. There is still no definitive timetable for his return to the Merrimack lineup.

Da Costa, Merrimack’s leading scorer with 36 points, underwent testing after swelling receded enough for accurate pictures to be taken.

The injury occurred with 5:57 remaining in the third period of Friday’s 4-2 win over the Wildcats at the Whittemore Center. Da Costa and UNH senior Phil DeSimone collided at center ice and Da Costa’s leg was kicked out from underneath him.

Merrimack swept New Hampshire this past weekend to reach 19 wins, extending a school record. The Warriors also moved within three points of first place, and into the fourth spot in the Pairwise.
