BC Picked To Top Hockey East Again

CHN Staff Report

Defending national champions Boston College was named the preseason pick to win Hockey East, as announced at the conference's Media Day in Boston today.

The Eagles return 19 players from last season’s team, including Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player Parker Milner in goal and Hockey East Tournament MVP Johnny Gaudreau.

Massachusetts-Lowell, coming off one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA history under second-year head coach Norm Bazin, was picked second. The River Hawks return Second-Team All-Star Doug Carr in net, along with senior captain Riley Wetmore and Hockey East Rookie of the Year Scott Wilson.

Boston University was picked third, with New Hampshire fourth.

Massachusetts will compete with a new coach after the resignation of Don Cahoon. Former Vermont assistant John Micheletto is the new coach, and he'll have a league-high 25 returning letterwinners from last season’s team.

This is the last season of Hockey East under its current configuration. It will add Notre Dame in 2013-14 and Connecticut in 2014-15.

USCHO's Jim Connelly won the 21st Joe Concannon Hockey East Media Award.
