BC's Hayes Suspended Indefinitely

by Scott McLaughlin/Senior Writer

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Boston College junior forward Kevin Hayes has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules. Coach Jerry York announced the suspension in a press release prior to Friday night's game against Merrimack.

Hayes currently ranks fourth on the Eagles with 24 points (six goals, 18 assists) on the season. He has 66 points over 101 games in his BC career. The 6-foot-3 forward was a first-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.

Hayes' suspension comes just as the Eagles prepare for a crucial weekend. Friday's game pits them against a Merrimack team that is just one point behind them in the race for the Hockey East regular-season title. On Sunday, they take on New Hampshire, who is also just one point out of first.

No details regarding the nature of Hayes' violation were released.

UPDATE: York addressed the situation after Friday's 2-1 loss to Merrimack. He didn't elaborate on what Hayes did, but he said he would watch how Hayes responds and determine when Hayes will be eligible again based on that.
