Northern Michigan Loses Top Scorer to Injury

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Northern Michigan senior Matt Thurber, who is leading the team in scoring, broke his leg during practice Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season.

Northern Michigan is set to play at Michigan in the first round of the CCHA playoffs this weekend.

Thurber, who had a career-high 11 goals as a junior, was leading the Wildcats with 32 points, including six goals. He also had a team-high plus-8 rating.

Thurber, 5-foot-9, is from Wisconsin, and spent his first two college seasons playing for the Badgers. He transferred to NMU after the 2009-10 season, and after sitting out a year, debuted for the Wildcats last year.
