UAA Coach Shyiak Will Not Return in 2013-14

CHN Staff Report

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska-Anchorage announced today that coach Dave Shyiak will not return next season.

Shyiak's contract had expired following the conclusion of this season, one in which Shyiak's Seawolves went 4-25-7.

Shyiak was UAA's fourth coach since joining the WCHA in 1993-94, and the program hasn't had a winning record since. Shyiak's tenure is similar to his predecessors — a couple of encouraging seasons amid a few dismal seasons. But the team has gone from 16 wins two years ago (a high since joining the WCHA), to nine, and now to four this season.

According to a school news release, "A search committee has been appointed and a national search for UAA’s next head hockey coach will begin immediately."
