BU's Nieto Signs with San Jose

BOSTON — Boston University junior Matt Nieto forwent his final year of eligibility to sign with San Jose. The club drafted him in the second round, 47th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Nieto has reported to the Sharks' Atlantic Hockey League affiliate in Worcester.

He set a career-high in goals this season with 18, which led the team. As a sophomore, he scored 16 goals and added 19 assists. The 37 points led the BU team.

The Long Beach, Calif., native arrived at BU after a stint with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich.

As a sophomore, he was named a Hockey East honorable mention all-star.
