Report: Scherr Leaving NCHC

CHN Staff Report

NCHC commissioner Jim Scherr is set to become Chief Operating Officer of the inaugural European Games, according to a report at the web site.

According to the report, it was announced that Scherr would take the position during the European Olympic Committees Seminar last week.

Scherr has denied he has accepted the job, but did tell USCHO that he was in discussions with the European Games, which are set to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2015.

Scherr, former CEO of the U.S. Olympic Committee and executive director of USA Wrestling, a sport that is being removed from the Olympics, was named the NCHC's first commissioner in January 2012. The NCHC is set for its inaugural season on the ice next fall.

Scherr was recently in Naples, Fla., for the annual coaches convention, and took part in selecting the conference's executive board.

The report says he will work under Azerbaijan's Sports Minister, CEO Azad Rahimov.
