Boyle Leaves Union

CHN Staff Report

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Defenseman Tim Boyle, the younger brother of Boston College grad and NHL forward Brian Boyle, has left Union  to play junior hockey in the United States Premier League.

Boyle, who was to be a sophomore for the Dutchmen this season, was a fourth-round pick of the Ottawa Senators in last June's NHL Draft.

“Tim Boyle is no longer in our program, and is pursuing other opportunities” Union coach Rick Bennett told the Schenectady Gazette on Thursday. “We are not going to comment on people that aren’t in our program.”

Boyle struggled in his first year, getting in just 15 games. He recorded two assists and 25 penalty minutes.

Union still has eight defensemen returning, including senior Mat Bodie and junior Shayne Gostisbehere.

“As a staff, we feel strongly that with the four returning defensemen and the four incoming freshmen, we’re happy with what we do have,” Bennett told the Gazette.
