Atlantic Hockey Suspends Pair

CHN Staff Report

HAVERHILL, Mass. — Atlantic Hockey has suspended Canisius junior Doug Beck and Niagara freshman Patrick Conte for one game each, for separate incidents in the teams' game against each other last weekend.

In the first period Saturday night, Conte went to make a hit on Canisius freshman Shane Conacher along the boards. Despite no penalty being called on the play, the hit was reviewed by the league. According to a statement, Atlantic Hockey commissioner Bob DeGregorio and Supervisor of Officials Gene Binda determined that Conte’s "shoulder and arm extend and makes contact with the head of Conacher."

Conte will sit out this Saturday's game against Robert Morris.

Beck was given a minor penalty for cross-checking at the 1:34 mark of the first period. Upon further review by DeGregorio and Binda, "it was determined that Beck hit the Niagara player in the back with his stick thus driving the Niagara player head first into the boards."

Beck will sit out Canisius' next game, which is not until Oct. 25 at Air Force.
