Denver's Hawkinson to Miss Season

Pioneers Scrambling to Fill Holes at Forward

CHN Staff Report

Denver freshman forward Brad Hawkinson will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, the Denver Post has reported.

Hawkinson, a native of Aurora, Colo., originally hurt his shoulder in training camp. He played the team's first two weekends before re-injuring it.

Hawkinson's injury leaves the Pioneers with just 12 forwards, including the injury to Zac Larraza. Larraza has also been out with a shoulder injury, but is expected to return.

Sophomore defenseman Nolan Zajac has seen time at forward, and will probably stay there now. The team also added to the roster Sean Toriumi in time for last week's games. Toriumi, a senior, has been president of Denver's club hockey team.

Freshman forward Emil Romig will soon return to the lineup. He has been forced to sit out eight games by NCAA rule, because he played with a professional player in Europe.
