Carey, Anas Earn HCA Monthly Honors

CHN Staff Report

St. Lawrence senior forward Greg Carey, who led the nation in scoring in November, has been named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association National Division I Player of the Month. He joins fellow ECAC forward Sam Anas of Quinnipiac on the honoree list; Anas was named Rookie of the Month.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Carey also received the honor in February 2013. Carey’s productive month of November helped him take over the nation’s scoring lead with 21 points in 10 games. He recently stretched his scoring streak to 11 games. Included is a pair of four-point games, against North Dakota and Dartmouth.

Anas led all freshmen in points (16), points per game (1.60) and tied for most goals (6) and assists (10), while guiding the Bobcats to a 7-1-2 record. He began the month the same way he ended it, earning ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week honors. He recorded a five-point weekend in road wins at Colgate and Cornell.

The Potomac, Maryland, native had a five-game point streak to start the month and is currently on a four-game point streak. For the year, he has 12 goals and 12 assists for a team-high 24 points — good for the national lead among freshmen.

He has helped the Bobcats to first place in the ECAC Hockey standings with 13 points through the first eight games.
