Bowling Green's Freibergs to Play in Olympics

CHN Staff Report

Bowling Green sophomore defenseman Ralfs Freibergs has been named to the Latvian team for the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Freibergs will be away from Bowling Green for most of February, but Bowling Green has only two regular-season games scheduled in that span, a Feb. 13-14 weekend at Alaska-Anchorage.

Freibergs is third on the Falcons in scoring with 16 points, on one goal and 15 assists.

Freibergs missed most of last season because of NCAA suspension, after it was determined that he had previously played games in Europe against professionals. He had seven points in eight games before being forced to sit out.

While the Olympics will be dotted with many former NCAA players, Freibergs is the only player currently in the NCAA on an Olympic team roster.
