Minnesota Leads Big Ten Awards

First place Minnesota naturally did well in Big Ten Awards, it was announced today.

The Gophers' Adam Wilcox was named Big Ten’s Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year, while teammate Mike Reilly was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Don Lucia was named the Coach of the Year.

Wilcox, Reilly and Lucia led the Gophers to a 26-5-6 record and the first-ever Big Ten conference title. Wilcox posted a .941 save percentage and a 1.64 save percentage, the best in conference play. Reilly was tied with Wisconsin’s Frank Simonelli for the most points amongst defensemen in Big Ten play with 15.

Michigan’s JT Compher led all freshmen in Big Ten scoring with 20 points, which ranked fourth in the conference. Compher, tied for seventh in rookie scoring nationally, was also named to the Big Ten Second Team and the league’s All-Rookie team.

Ohio State’s Ryan Dzingel led all Big Ten players in conference scoring with 24, while Wisconsin’s Mark Zengerle was second with 23 and Nic Kerdiles third with 22. Both Zengerle and Dzingel made the Big Ten First Team, along with Reilly and Badger Jake McCabe.
