Van Brabant Signs With Calgary

CHN Staff Report

Quinnipiac junior forward Bryce Van Brabant has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the NHL's Calgary Flames. Van Brabant, a native of Morinville, Alberta, was a free agent.

Van Brabant, 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, had 15 goals, 22 points and 113 penalty minutes this season in 40 games.

Quinnipiac was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday by Providence.

Van Brabant's deal is worth $1.35 millon per season with the Flames.

"Obviously I'm disappointed on how (Friday) turned out, so right now it’s a bittersweet moment with the loss," Van Brabant said to the Flames' web site. "I'm excited to be joining the Calgary Flames, and I want to thank everyone involved at Quinnipiac.

“Without them I couldn't have imagined this being a possibility."

Van Brabant will play with the Flames immediately.
