UML's Folin Signs With Minnesota Wild

CHN Staff Report

Massachusetts-Lowell sophomore defenseman Christian Folin has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild and will forego his final two seasons of eligibility.

Folin's season ended on Sunday, when the River Hawks were eliminated by Boston College in the Northeast Regional final.

Folin, a 23-year-old defenseman from Gothenburg, Sweden, posted 41 points (12 goals, 29 assists) over the last two seasons, including six goals and 14 assists this season, helping lead Lowell to two straight Hockey East championships.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder was reported to be choosing between Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Philadelphis, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

Folin will join the Wild in Chicago this week, burning the first year off of his two-year entry-level contract. He will be a restricted free agent following next season.
