Holy Cross Hires David Berard as Head Coach

CHN Staff Report

Holy Cross has hired David Berard as its next head hockey coach. An official announcement could come as soon as Monday.

Berard spent this past season as coordinator of hockey operations at Providence. In 2012-13, he served as interim head coach at Connecticut, taking over early in the season when Bruce Marshall resigned.

At the time Berard took over the Huskies, the team was 0-4-1. Under Berard, the Huskies finished 19-10-4, advancing to the Atlantic Hockey semifinals. He was a finalist to become the permanent UConn head coach, but that job eventually went to former Boston College assistant Mike Cavanaugh.

A former Providence goaltender, Berard has a long history as an assistant at his alma mater, serving as an assistant from 1994-96 and then again from 1999-2011. He was also an assistant coach at Lake Superior State for two seasons.

According to sources, Berard was a finalist along with former Boston University associate head coach Mike Bavis.
