Barr Leaves Providence Staff for Western Michigan

CHN Staff Report

Ben Barr is leaving Providence's coaching staff to accept a position on Western Michigan's, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette and Providence Journal.

Barr, a former player at Rensselaer, will replace Rob Facca, who left WMU for a scouting position in the NHL. Barr played under current Western Michigan head coach Andy Murray in 1998-99 when Murray was the coach at Shattuck St. Mary's prep school.

Barr, 33, was an assistant at Union under Nate Leaman, then went with Leaman to Providence in 2011.

"It the toughest decision I've ever had to make, but for my development it's something I have to do. It will be a great thing for me," Barr told the Providence Journal. "There's probably one guy in college hockey that I would go [and work] for outside of Nate. And it was Andy."

Western Michigan hasn't officially announced the move yet, but Barr's profile has been removed from Providence's web site.
