Tortorella Stepping Down as UNH Assistant

DURHAM, N.H. — Jim Tortorella has decided to step down as New Hampshire assistant coach to pursue an opportunity outside of hockey.

Tortorella started his collegiate coaching career at UNH as an assistant coach for the 1993-94 season, before returning in 2011-12 in the role of associate head coach for three seasons.

Tortorella will serve as chief operating officer at the Foundation House in Portland, Maine. The Foundation House homes provide support for residents in their recovery from the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction.

Prior to his second stint at UNH, Tortorella spent 17 seasons at Colby College, including 16 as a head coach where he compiled a record of 230-138-33.

New Hampshire currently in the process of searching for a replacement and expects to fill the vacancy soon. Tortorella will stay on during the transition period.
