Air Force Earns Top Spot in Atlantic Hockey Poll

CHN Staff Report

Earning the top spot in this year's Atlantic Hockey coaches poll is the defending league tournament champions Air Force. The Falcons received eight first-place votes and 97 points to be selected as preseason favorites.

Following the Falcons are last year's tournament runner-ups, Robert Morris. The Colonials received two first-place votes and 87 points.

With recruiting showing improvement in recent years at many schools, Atlantic Hockey is gaining steam among pundits as having the potential to land two teams in the NCAA tournament.

Both Niagara and Canisius have new coaches. Canisius' Dave Smith left for RPI, which left the door open for assistant Trevor Large to take his place. Niagara's Dave Burkholder was let go, and the Purples Eagles tapped former Massachusetts-Lowell assistant Jason Lammers to replace him.
